The FINA Diving Grand Prix 2016 took place at OCBC Aquatic Centre from the 4th of to the 6th of November 2016. Divers from 6 countries- Australia, China, Japan, Ukraine, Malaysia and host country Singapore participated in the event. There were a total of 16 events with 9 FINA judges present to score the dives being performed.
Japan was the top performing country with 2 Gold medals and a Silver medal, while hosts Singapore secure a Silver medal and a Bronze Medal.
The 6th Singapore Inter-Schools Diving Championships took place at the Toa Payoh Swimming Complex on the 24th of September 2016. A total of 68 divers took part in the event, with participants ranging from 5-8 years of age, to primary, secondary and tertiary level athletes. A total of 39 schools- with 2 Tertiary Institutions and 4 clubs; the Aquatic Performance Swim Club, Torpedo Dive Club, Aerotumblers Diving Club and the National TID squad participated in the championships. There were a total of 15 events with 11 certified judges present to score the dives being performed.
The first half of the competition began with the 1m Boys and Girls Age Group D & E category ,as well as the Platform Boys and Girls Primary & Secondary event. The medal ceremony for these events began before the lunch break, with the medals being given out by Mr.William Lee, Vice-President of Singapore Diving. Achievement medals were also given out to those who participated in the Schools Novice Age Groups C, D and E.
The second half of the competition resumed with the 3m Men & Women Secondary & Tertiary Event as well as the 3m Women Synchronisation Event. It was then continued by the 1m Boys and Girls Age Group B & C before the 1m Boys and Girls Primary & Secondary Event took place. The medal ceremony for these events commenced shortly after. The final event that took place was the 1m Women Tertiary event which was the final event before the medal ceremony, which concluded the championships.
28th SEA Games diving events took place over 4 days at the OCBC Aquatic Centre from 6th-9th June 2015. A total of 46 divers from 7 SEA countries took part, namely Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand & Singapore.
We started the first day of competition with the Women’s 3m Individual Springboard, sending 2 of our national divers, Myra Lee & Fong Kay Yian, to compete against divers from Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam. Kay Yian broke her personal best record with a score of 258.90 and clinched a bronze for Singapore. Myra came in 5th in position with a score of 211.00.
Next, we have the Men’s Synchronised Platform in which Ooi Tze Liang and Chew Yi Wei won their 1st gold medal for this competition as a duo with a score of 404.37. Indonesia duo, Andriyan & Putra Adityo Restu bagged the silver with a score of 355.11 followed by the Thailand – Siriboon Theerapat & Juntaphadawon, winning the bronze medals with a score of 316.77.
The second day of competition kicked off with the Men’s 3M Individual Springboard event featuring Mark Lee and Timothy Lee. Mark fought from the 7th position in round 2, eventually emerging as a bronze medallist with a score of 349.25 in the final round. Timothy finished close behind with a score of 347.30 in the 4th position.
In the Women’s 10m Synchronised Platform, Singapore’s Myra Lee and Freida Lim competed against other 5 other teams. Our duo was consistently in the 2nd position throughout all 5 rounds, bagging the silver medals with a score of 238.59.
Into the 3rd day of competition, we have the Women’s 3M Synchronised Springboard event. We have a relatively new pairing of Ashlee Tan & Fong Kay Yian representing Singapore in this event. Despite only training together for 3m Synchronized event for only 8 months, they manage to get a 2nd position in this event, bagging the 2nd set of silver medals for Singapore.
Next up, we have the Men’s Individual Platform event in which Jonathan Chan competed in. He put up a strong battle against Malaysian diver, maintaining his 2nd position till the 5th round of dive in which Chew Yi Wei overtook him. Jonathan eventually finished in 3rd position with a score of 356.55.
On the last day of competition, we have the Men’s 3M Synchronized Springboard event. Our diving twins, Timothy and Mark Lee, put up a fierce fight against the Malaysia team, Ooi Tze Liang & Azman Ahmad Amsyar and came in 2nd position eventually with a score of 381.78, just 27.78 points behind the gold medallists. In the midst of winning silver for Singapore, Tim & Mark also broke their personal best in this 3M Synchronized event.
In the last event of the competition- the Women’s 10M Individual Platform featured 2 of our Singapore divers, Kimberly Chan & Freida Lim. Freida finished in 3rd position with a score of 251.70 with Kimberly close behind in the 4th position with a score of 241.35.
In comparison to the medal tally of our divers in 27th SEA Games, 2 Silvers 2 Bronzes, our divers clinched a total of 3 Silvers & 4 Bronzes, earning us our title of 2nd best diving team in South-East Asia. A job well done!
FINA Diving Grand Prix (Puerto Rico) 2015 was held from 16th – 19th April 2015 at the San Juan Natatorium Aquatic Complex at Parque Central, Santurce. 74 divers from 17 countries competed in this event in which Singapore sent 5 of our national divers as well as 2 of our FINA listed judges, Lim Jia Yan and Cheong Kai Ting. Countries that were involved include Egypt, Malaysia, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, China, United States, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Dominican Republic, Japan, Belarus, Jamaica, Poland, Columbia and Sweden.
On day 1 of the competition, our girls, Kay Yian and Ashlee, participated in the Women’s 3M Springboard Preliminary round with 19 other divers. Kay Yian came in 13th place with a score of 235.80 whereas Ashlee finished with a 21st placing scoring 182.60.
Day 2 of competition: We have Timothy and Mark Lee taking part in the Men’s 3M Springboard Preliminary round. They came in 19th & 22nd position out of 25 participating divers and obtained a score of 318.45 and 293.55 respectively. Moving on to the next event, we have Freida participating in the Women’s Platform Preliminary round. She finished with a 15th placing among the 16 divers with a score of 221.10.
On the 3rd day of competition, Timothy and Mark Lee competed in the Men’s Synchronized 3M Springboard Finals. They finished with a 7th position and a score of 322.98 out of the 8 pairs.
Coming to the last day of the competition, our girls Synchro pair, Kay Yian and Ashlee competed in the Women’s Synchronized 3M Springboard Finals. They came in 8th out of the 8 teams participating, scoring 210.03 as a team.

The FINA Diving Grand Prix (Gatineau) 2015 took place at Gautineau Sports Complex on the 9th to 12th April 2015. A total of 122 divers from 19 countries took part in this competition. Singapore sent a team of 7 divers to compete against divers coming from Australia, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Great Britain, Germany, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Russia, Switzerland, Austria, Peru, Poland and Sweden.
The competition started off with the Women’s Open 3M Springboard Preliminary round in which Singapore divers, Fong Kay Yian & Myra Lee competed against 25 other divers. Kay Yian came in 22nd with a score of 219.90 and Myra finished 27th with a score of 204.55.
Day 2 of the competition started off with the Men’s Open 3M Springboard Preliminary round. Timothy Lee and Mark Lee from Singapore came in 23rd and 26th position among 31 divers with a score of 316.70 & 311.90 respectively. Our girls, Freida Lim and Kimberly Chan took part in the 2nd event of the day, Women’s Open Platform Preliminary round. Freida came in 19th with a score of 214.80 whereas Kimberly finished 22nd with a score of 154.45 among 22 competitors.
On the 3rd day of competition, our Synchronized twins, Mark and Timothy Lee participated in the Men’s Open 3M Synchro Finals. They emerged 9th out of the 12 pairs of competitors with a score of 340.80. In the 3rd event of the day, Women’s Open Platform Synchro, Singapore sent out a new pairing of Platform Synchro girls, Myra Lee and Freida Lim. They finished with a 6th placing scoring 242.61.
On the last day of competition, our 3M Synchro pair, Fong Kay YIan and Ashlee Tan, took part in the Women’s Open 3M Synchro Finals and finished in the 8th position with a score of 238.95, competing against 7 other pairs.

Singapore Diving participated in the 5th Macau International Diving Invitation 2014 held at Olympic Sports Center – Aquatic Centre, Macao China from 19-24 November 2014. The contingent consist of 7 officials and 11 athletes from both the National Open Squad and the National Age Group Squad.

18/10/2014 : The second day of the FINA Diving Grand Prix Singapore 2014 continued to enthrall diving fans on Saturday afternoon at the OCBC Aquatic Centre, featuring some of the world’s and Asia’s finest divers competing in the 3m Synchronised Women Fi…nals, 3m Men Finals and the 10m Women Finals. The duo of Ng Yan Yee and Cheong Jun Hoong from Malaysia clinched first placing in the 3m Synchronised Women Finals, posting a final score of 289.80 points, while diving twins Choi Sut Ian and Choi Sut Kan from Macau achieved second place with a total score of 270.48.
In the 3m Men Finals, He Chao of China earned a score of 525.35 points to secure first place, while his compatriot Li Shixin obtained 498.60 points to earned second placing. Malaysia’s Azman Ahmad Amsyar took third placing with a total of 420.65 points. Over at the 10m Women Finals, Si Yajie from China managed to bag 380.95 points to come in first in the 10m Women’s Finals while her compatriot Ji Siyu scored 372.70 points. Loh Zhia Yi from Malaysia took home third placing with a total score of 320.05.

The 4th Singapore Inter-Schools Diving Championship 2014 was held on 5 July 2014 in the OCBC Aquatic Centre, Singapore Sports Hub. Participants from school levels as young as primary school to tertiary level across the nation competed against each other to vie for gold. This year, over 50 participants taking part taking part in the annual series.
1m Age A Men Ben Sng from National University beat off Amirul Ammar Bin Ameer and Rayyan Bin Ramli, both from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, to claim gold.
Despite being one of the oldest in the field and in his first competition, Sng was not affected in any way as he earned a score of 75.70. “I was pretty nervous because this is my first competition and I didn’t do well for some dives, but I will work on improving them,” Sng said.
Similarly in her first competition, Ngee Ann Polytechnic first-year student Dara Lim was pleased that her first outing in a competitive event yielded dividends. “It was quite scary, but I guess when you get on the board, you just calm down and do your best,” she said. “It is quite good to be winning, since it is my first time diving.”
